Steam taking forever to download games

To my knowlege the probleme is that steam is copying a big portion of the updated game to a different steam library different drive. After the copy process is done the update is loaded and integrated to the original game data. Afterwards the copied data is deleted. For example, Conan gets an update. Steam copies like 30GB to my external ssd where i got a few little games , then the updates goes to the original data like 2 mins duration.

And then the copied data is getting deleted without being edited. Seems to me like a method to destroy harddrives if you ask me. The problem here is, we dont have any control about where this update stuff is copied to.

And not even a notification about whats going on. Typically i remove my other steam libraries before i start an update. Last edited by Drake ; 16 May, am. Originally posted by Drake :. When I pause any downloads on Steam, ping and download speeds return to normal.

To do so:. Try a server at another location to see if this works for you. If it does, great. But if not, try the steps above again to choose another different location.

There are still other fixes you can try. Your download issue may be caused by interference from your security software. Consult the documentation of your security software for instructions on disabling it. If this resolves your problem, contact the vendor of your security software and ask them for advice, or install a different security solution. Downloading games can be a resource-consuming task for your hard drive.

And your download speed may be slowed down if there are other programs causing high drive utilization. You should check your disk usage and end those resource -hogging programs. After ending the resource-hogging programs, try restarting the download process to see if this works for you. Hopefully it does.

But if not, there are two more fixes for you to try…. Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. Question Why am I getting very low download rate on steam and high disk usage? Question Steam downloads without permission.
