Re: [Guide] Upgrading TGv7 to latest firmware fix random restart You don't need the username and password of the real administrator account to do the update following this method.
What you need: 1 Firmware View Page Source If you're using chrome, and copy the value content of the password line Steps: 1 Connect your modem to your PC through Ethernet Cable Put the cable in port 1 , turn off all other devices connecting to the modem, and remove the phone line. Customers should contact SpeedTouch directly in the first instance should any such errors be seen. Windows will then ask if you wish to try with recommended settings. If you click yes, Windows will re-run setup in compatibility mode and it will work on the second attempt.
Once you have downloaded the upgrade wizard and extracted the content double-click setup. The wizard will now start. The wizard will search your network until it detects a router, or times out.
Once it has detected your router the wizard will move to the next step automatically. The wizard will now confirm the User name and Password for the router, this is the username and password that you would use to access the router's web interface.
We recommend using a secure password - for example your ADSL password. Once you have entered the details, click OK to continue, If this stage is skipped the wizard will have used the default username of Administrator and a blank password.
Once complete, click the 'Finish' button. If you ever reset the router to factory defaults you will need to know what this username and password are else you may be unable to access the router configuration pages.
The default username for the version 7 firmware is 'Administrator' and the password field should be left blank. The default username for the version 8 firmware is 'admin' and the password is the serial number from the bottom of the router without the 'SN:' prefix and the two characters in brackets at the end. Note that this username and password change refers to the firmware version and not the model of router.
The v7 router can have specific v8. After the firmware upgrade you may find that some of the router configuration pages fail to display properly or have an overlay visible in the background. This is due to your browser 'caching' images and can be resolved by browsing to one of the pages and holding CTRL and F5 on your keyboard to force a page refresh.
If you are downgrading from version 8 to version 7 then we strongly recommend that you change the admin password for the router once the firmware downgrade has been completed by following the instructions here. Tags: v7. Related articles. Latest Articles.
